Based on Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 mapping, it is tied to the National Grid and contains not only highly accurate and detailed road data (including roundabouts, motorway junctions and minor lanes and tracks) but also a considerable depth of named geographic features such as small settlements and farms, woodlands, rivers and lakes.

The raster dataset consists of 156 individual tiles, each representing a double page of the printed atlas. Each tile has been scanned at a resolution of 200 dots per inch (dpi) and edgematched with adjoining tiles to create a seamless dataset of the whole of Great Britain.
